Super Micro says fourth-quarter orders topped $60 billion

July 21 (Reuters) - Super Micro Computer said on Tuesday ?it has received orders ?in excess of $60 billion in the ?fourth quarter, helped by growing demand for its advanced AI servers, sending the company's ?shares up ?16% in extended trading.

AI infrastructure firms have ?seen accelerated demand as tech companies and cloud providers ?ramp up ?investments in ?data centers ?to support large language models and other AI applications.

The server maker expects adjusted gross margins in the range of ?15% to 17% ?for the quarter ?ended ?June 30, significantly higher ?than its forecast ?of 8.2% ?to 8.4%, primarily due to a favorable customer and ?product ?mix.

I have a new term I've invented to describe stocks like SMCI and POET.

They both have a high "Lucy factor".

Definitions of Lucy factor:

* The tendency of the market to repeatedly alternate between overconfidence and disappointment in the same stock.

* The degree to which a stock's valuation is driven by a recurring cycle of enthusiasm and disappointment rather than a steady reassessment of business value.

* The tendency of a stock to repeatedly inspire investor confidence at exactly the point where sentiment risk is greatest.

Or in its simplest form -

A stock has a high Lucy Factor when:

Super Micro Computer Inc. (SMCI) announced on Thursday that its collaboration with Taiwanese authorities has led to the arrest of three suspects in a case involving the smuggling of AI servers into China.

Super Micro stated that the collaboration also helped prevent the smuggling of 50 of its servers into China and that these servers were deceptively acquired after being sold to an authorized reseller. The company had followed a rigorous vetting and review process that exceeded applicable regulatory requirements.

Super Micro Computer Smashes Q2 Estimates, Lifts Full Year Outlook

Super Micro Computer Inc. ( SMCI, Financials) did far better than Wall Street thought it would in the second quarter. This was because there was a huge increase in demand for servers used in AI data centers.The company's sales was $12.7 billion, which is 123% more than a year ago and more than $2 billion more than what analysts had expected. Adjusted profits were $0.69 per share, which is $0.20 more than what analysts had predicted.Super Micro thinks the momentum will keep going. Management expects revenues to be at least $12.3 billion in the third quarter and boosted its full-year revenue forecast to at least $40 billion. Executives indicated that most of the increase is coming from big clients who are creating GPU- and CPU-based systems to handle AI workloads.Investors were happy with the results, and the stock price went up around 3% after they came out. Costs for shipping and the supply chain keep margins low, but experts say the new report confirms Super Micro's status as one of the primary hardware vendors for the current AI build-out.

With all that's going on with this company in the news, I 'm surprised to see no one posting here! I owned it years back and sold it because it did nothing, then recently it just shot up. Now it has fallen like 80% back to where it was when I owned it?!? Due to supposed 'accounting" irregularities and avoiding sanctions??! Anyone with any insight? Can one assume that the company was avoiding US sanctions selling servers for AI to China? If so, what would the penalties be? And does anyone have prior experience with accounting firms "firing" their customer? Thanks .
