Jordan, which is also part of the local geography, is configured as an American protectorate to balance out Syria, which was recognized by Barack Obama, publicly in 2015 and privately in his letters to Ali Khamenei, as an Iranian regional “equity” and will therefore apparently be administered solely by Iran. Whatever problems may arise between the three Levantine provinces and their local subdivisions are to be adjudicated jointly by the U.S.-Iran condominium, with local governing entities being free to plead their cases in Washington but powerless to take independent action without taking on both the global superpower and its regional partner. Sounds like the entire scheme has as its purpose to bring in Iran into a friendship and cooperation relationship with the US. This is what Obama wanted, ever since the beginning of his first term in office. The problem is - the plan is a monstrosity - and it won’t work. The reasons are many - take, for example, the factoid that the KSA and all other Sunni nations in the region will not go along with an imposed dominance of the USA and the Shia Iran. Who gave them the right to divide Syria and Jordan among themselves? Iran is already friendly with Russia - and will not revert to become friends with the Great Satan. They may use this idiotic scheme to gain some advantage - and then drop it. If the scheme won’t work - and it won’t - the US will be in danger of getting dragged into yet another forever war we cannot win. I doubt that the back bencher Yair Lapid had the authority to sign any such nonsense. I doubt that the Knesset will ratify this. It’s just too crazy - and includes Israel giving away its sovereignty AND security.
