If you count on us to help you do the Dead on the daily, you're going to be mighty pleased to hear about our latest feature, ALL THE YEARS LIVE. We've broken into the video vault and we'll be uploading legendary live performances at a steady clip of one a week from here until...eternity, we hope. Yessiree, every Thursday you'll find a new selection added to the ALL THE YEARS LIVE playlist on the Dead's Official YouTube Channel. Subscribe and we promise you won't miss a thing! | To kick off the series, Archivist David Lemieux is going to tee up our first video, "Morning Dew" from 10/18/74: | From the middle night of a five night stand that were billed as the Dead's "Farewell Concerts," this is widely considered one of the greatest, and most emotional, versions of "Morning Dew" ever performed by the Grateful Dead. Thankfully, the Dead's farewell proved to be a two year hiatus from live touring, and in June 1976 they returned to the road. |

From: JakeStraw | 6/12/2019 8:40:29 AM | | | | ALL THINGS AOXOMOXOA: 50TH ANNIVERSARY RELEASES OUT NOW | | "Aoxomoxoa is the work of the magical band. Can you hear this music and not see them before your eyes? The music is so much the reality of their physical and spiritual bodies that seeing them is the wonder of seeing music. Phil Lesh’s intensity and total dispatch driving his bass surpassingly, threading solidly, commandingly, laying line over line over line into the expanding spectrum of physical sounds that they are illuminating. Bob Weir, the rhythm guitarist and sometime vocalist sounds better every night, looks healthy, is pleasing and unpolished enough to charm you, to put out the extra push of directness that makes you feel welcomed. Mickey Hart, the jubilant percussionist and his partner Bill, less rollicking but cheerful — both dynamic, resonant drummers. Tom Constanten, the keyboard man coming into his own with vibrant riffing and subtly chiming embellishments. And out front of these perfectly interweaving, very together people is Jerry Garcia’s luminous guitar stroking. | The singing is mostly Jerry — a dominant and exquisite person emanating serene unconsciousness and tenderness. Trembling, sensual, whimsical tenderness. Jerry is beautiful; not too serious, not too sweet, not too angelic, but not ordinary, not surrendered to a style. Jerry’s voice is emotional and musical in the same-non-verbal way that flesh is tender and loving real. If you can feel, he can reach you. The gentle choir, the dancing mountain harpsichording, the mystical aura of another consciousness — reflections of rain and sand and sitting mellow in warm sunlight smiling. Elemental and celebratory and they don’t need to fool you because they aren’t fooling themselves, they don’t need to. No other music sustains a life style so delicate and loving and lifelike." - Rolling Stone , July 12, 1969 | The AOXOMOXOA 50TH ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION features two versions of the album - one fully remastered from the original 1969 mix and the other remastered from the definitive 1971 band-produced mix. This is the first time both mixes will be presented together in a single release. We've also included a bonus disc of previously unreleased live music recorded January 24-26, 1969 at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco, CA. |

This year we will be featuring the full concert from June 17, 1991 at Giants Stadium in New Jersey. | Sure to be a crowd pleaser, 6/17/91 is one of only two shows in the Grateful Dead's archive recorded to 48-track analog tape, providing spectacular and unprecedented audio quality. The show features fan favorites such as "Eyes Of The World," "Truckin’," "Uncle John’s Band," along with Grateful Dead rarities including "Saint Of Circumstance," "Might As Well," "New Speedway Boogie," and much more. From: JakeStraw | 6/21/2019 9:08:26 AM | | | | JULY 1978: THE COMPLETE RECORDINGS, five incredible unreleased shows and the first official release from the long-lost tapes, recently returned to the Grateful Dead’s vault. Follow the Dead on a sonic journey through a superb selection of settings, an often epic adventure that finds them winning over Willie and Waylon fans in Kansas City, conjuring charisma in Omaha, and elevating the Red Rocks beyond their already spiritual planes. With five distinct performances painting the masterpiece of 1978, Betty Cantor-Jackson's always-pristine soundboard recordings, and the "hall-of-fame pedigree" of the Dead's first-ever shows at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre, this is one release that far exceeds excellence in music, sound quality, and rarity.
Limited to 15,000 individually numbered copies, JULY 1978: THE COMPLETE RECORDINGS includes Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City, MO (7/1/78), St. Paul Civic Center, St. Paul, MN (7/3/78), Omaha Civic Auditorium, Omaha, NE (7/5/78), and Red Rocks Amphitheater, Morrison CO (7/7/78 and 7/8/78) - all of the performances in this collection are drawn from the band’s master soundboard recordings, each newly mastered by Jeffrey Norman. The set also features original artwork by esteemed cartoonist Paul Pope (D.C. and Marvel comics) and in-depth liner notes written by Nick Meriwether (Grateful Dead Archives at the University of California, Santa Cruz), as well as a producer’s note from producer David Lemieux. store.dead.net |
