I use a lot of extra virgin olive oil in my cooking and was shocked to recently pay $70 for a can that two years ago I was complaining about paying $30 for.

I just talked to some friends trapped under the heat dome in Quebec, really ugly conditions with record temps and high humidity there and down into the US

Though it is nowhere near as awful as what has been happening south of the border, we in southern BC are suffering under a heat wave, with dozens of high temperature records being broken over the weekend, and now it is spreading east into Alberta and beyond. Fortunately up here it is no heat dome, with night time temperatures dropping to 16C or so to give some relief. Tonight should be the worst of it, with temperatures gradually moderating over the week ahead. Now the province is waiting on tenterhooks to see what happens with wildfires.

Mercifully, the heat alerts are being removed gradually as cooler air pushes in from the west. across BC But it was here long enough to dry everything out and greatly increase the risk of wildfires. This will be exacerbated because the cold front that is bringing us relief will also provide strong winds and dry lightning in the Interior.

So far only a few dozen new fires have ignited, and there has only been one evacuation order this week, but officials are preparing for much worse to come.

Here's the current wildfire risk chart. Look out Alberta!

I forgot to mention that as of Friday there will be complete ban out outside fires, including campfires, across all of BC. The ban is expected to continue through the summer.

Amazing! Beryl held together long enough to cause serious flooding in Nova Scotia. It is very rare for a system to hold that much strength over land for that long, especially this early in the hurricane season.
