From: LoneClone | 6/12/2024 4:25:43 PM | | | | We had a provincial wildfire update in BC today. Thanks to the recent cool weather we are not doing that badly, with no evacuations and 'only' 100 fires currently burning, but thanks to the ongoing droughts the risk remains high. For example, although the snow pack has been melting at only slightly above normal rates, in most areas the melt started with the snow at half the normal amount or less.
A heat wave, particularly if accompanied by a few weeks without rain, would likely drop us back in it. Hope we get lucky this year.

Never did see him in a game . i got transferred to another state. .. years later i hooked up with fliers, then the capitals. i got to Los Angles and looking for house the real estate rep told me her boy friend was the goalie. i said , "I didn't know ca. had a hockey team". boy, did i lose contact on the sport. caught up again with it in chicago. watching the blackhawks was thrilling like the old days in Boston. and the organ player could really get the crowd going. what a terrific sport. |

The noise level will be off the charts tomorrow night in Edmo. Here's hoping the Florida storm keeps the Panthers in Florida for a midnight flight. |

I'll be rooting for your Oilers as well, but if they don't get their offense oiled up, it will be a short series. Anyway, playing ice hockey in south Florida is about as silly as that Jamaican bobsled team in the Winter Olympics.. :-) |

We are back to normal moisture-wise. Normal is a bit of a state of mind on the prairies, things are always extreme. The drought teeth gnashing is fading, onto the next crisis.
Yes, hockey tomorrow night. Hopefully the air controllers at YEG will divert the Panthers flight to YYC for a couple of hours....just to get into the spirit of things. |

Those cats captured the imagination of the city in '88, along with Eddie The Eagle. Simpler times. I went to Calgary for the final weekend and caught the bobsled finals at COP (Paskapoo in the old days). Rather surreal, strong Chinook happening, they had rigged tarps to cover much of the course. They had a state of the art refrigeration system on the luge and bobsled tracks and pulled it off.
DiCaprio was maybe a teenager tin'88 so he had yet to endure the rigors of a February Chinook.
…it was scary. I’ve never experienced something so firsthand that was so dramatic. You see the fragility of nature and how easily things can be completely transformed with just a few degrees difference. It’s terrifying, and it’s what people are talking about all over the world. And it’s simply just going to get worse.
That awkward moment when you have to explain a Chinook to Leo DiCaprio | Calgary Herald
Hockey in Florida? Follow the money. They'll have decent ice to play on tomorrow night. |

Good with it because they arrived but not until after air traffic controllers in Edmonton had a little fun with the situation. According to audio posted on social media, they joked to the pilots that they would be holding up landing long enough to run out of fuel and divert to another airport.

Environment Canada warns of snow for B.C.’s major Interior mountain passes
VANCOUVER THE CANADIAN PRESS PUBLISHED 49 MINUTES AGO
Environment Canada is warning motorists of possible snow at mountain passes on a number of major highways across British Columbia’s Interior.
The agency says a weather system will bring a cool air mass to the B.C. Interior on Saturday and Sunday, which may combine with some heavy precipitation to form snow at mountain passes.
It says up to five centimetres may fall on parts of the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Kamloops, the Okanagan Connector from Merritt to Kelowna, at Allison Pass on Highway 3 from Hope to Princeton, and on the Kootenay and Rogers passes.
Environment Canada has also issued a number of other weather warnings for central and northeastern B.C., with the northern Peace River region and areas near Fort Nelson slated to see up to 50 millimetres of rain through to Saturday.
The warnings say flash floods and water pooling on roads may come as a result, as well as possible flooding of low-lying areas.
A severe thunderstorm watch has also been posted for Wells Grey Park, Quesnel and Williams Lake, with the forecast calling for strong wind gusts and possible large hai |
