Well, not gonna post any spoilers in case most people here watch the prime time show instead of the livestream. Let's just say that all these men ran the 100m faster than I did in my prime in college. Must be their shoes.

World record backfired on the USA.
Coach kept the same team. meanwhile the Dutch coach subbed in femke bol.
Second fastest 400m runner in the world. Had he'd figured in her speed he'd have subbed in a faster anchor for the USA team. Or a faster other leg.

And they lost.

The mixed relay world record isn't that special right now since the elite runners haven't been that involved.

Sports is such a game of inches. This clip shows why every time I got excited about doing the pole vault it worked against me.

No question had we put our top 400m runners in the relay, we win and set a massive world record. Still, given the times of our competitors, we should have won. One option would have been to Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone at anchor. She and Bol are both 400m hurdlers who probably would also finish top two in the flat 400. I've been a Syndey fan since her days at Union Catholic in NJ. I even traveled to Boston in 2017 to see her Emma Coburn, Brenda Martinez, and Jenny Simpson set the indoor DMR (distance medley relay) world record. As part of the press I had an opportunity afterwards to talk to her and say congrats.

My current favorite runner is Quincy Wilson (not Hall). The kid is killing it at 16 in the 400. You'll see him on a relay. If he stays healthy, he should break the world record before he turns 18. We got to call his race at Ocean Breeze a few months ago.

Putting Sydney McLaughlin in would have been the equivalent of the Dutch coach inserting Femke Bol. Usa coach should have seen that and compensated. Not sure
Usually they sub out for better runners in the final but because they set a world record, they let the weaker runners run again in the final.

Looks like the dutch stole one.

Epic fail on the NBC announcers on Noah's win. At the very least, they should have been clear it was their opinion, as opposed to what was popping up on their screen from the timers. BTW, I actually think Leigh does a great job in general, so was surprised. And had he answered my email about getting together for lunch (he lives two towns over), I probably wouldn't have posted this lol. He also calls NASCAR, which I think makes him better calling track. For some reason, most track announcers are heavy on the conversation and don't pay much attention to the race itself until the end.

BTW, I forgot to mention Gabby Thomas. She's one of my favorites as well, perhaps even my favorite as a person not just an athlete.

Yep. The announcers thought Thompson of Jamaica had won.
But the photo showed lyles by a few inches.

He forgot to tuck properly before the jump.

Word is he's had many date and marriage proposals since that ill-fated leap though, so that should soften the blow a bit.... so to speak.
