From: Jhana | 6/2/2024 5:51:37 PM | | | | Britbox "After the Flood" is the classic British mystery 6-parter that starts with one simple puzzle and untangles some very tangled webs by the time it's done. Solid cast and story. Easy to binge in two nights if that's your style. We did the first three a la carte then plunged in for the second half. |

danbuettner.com
In Sardinia, I had the good fortune of meeting the Melis family who holds the Guinness World Record as the oldest family in history. They are nine siblings whose collective age was 851 years (the oldest was 109). They ate the same lunch every day: sourdough bread, a glass of Blue Zones Cannonau wine, and a very special minestrone.
Minestrone is simply a soup made from available garden vegetables, beans, and grain (usually a type of pasta). The combination yields a delicious one-bowl meal that is high in protein and most importantly, a potpourri of fibers and fuel your microbiome. Here’s the recipe, with just a couple modifications to make it even MORE delicious:
Blue Zones Minestrone- Dan’s version Recipe
INGREDIENTS- 1/3 lbs dry garbanzo beans
- 1/3 lbs dry white beans
- 1/3 lbs dry pinto or red beans
- 1.5 cups 1-2” cubed potatoes
- 6-8 cups of water or veg stock if you like it richer. I use 1 Tbs “Better than Bouillon” Vegetable Base
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 5 stalks celery chopped
- 5 carrots, chopped
- 8 cloves garlic, chopped,
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 tsp oregano
- 2 tbs olive oil
- 1 tsp red or black pepper (red makes it hotter)
- 1 – 14 oz can of chopped tomatoes or 5 Roma tomatoes
- Salt to taste
Tip: Add other fresh vegetables from the garden or market, such as zucchini, cabbage, green beans, and cauliflower or broccoli florets.
DIRECTIONS- I like to soak beans overnight or if you forget, Microwave dry beans in a bowl of water as you chop the other ingredients.
- Sauté all vegetables in olive oil over low heat until onions are clear.
- Add beans and a can of tomatoes, potatoes, oregano, bay leaf and slow cook until beans are tender.
- I let it cook on extremely low heat all day, adjusting water so it’s thicker than a soup and thinner than a stew. (For quicker soup
pressure cook or use an instapot for 5 minutes and let cooker cool naturally) - Finish with avocado when serving.
- Freeze leftovers in single-serving glass Tupperware.

From: Jhana | 6/12/2024 6:29:35 AM | | | | Some older series we have come across lately and enjoyed:
"Fingersmith" on Britbox is a very twisty tale of tricks and deception that you will not see coming. A 3-parter binge.
"The Paradise" - ensemble department store saga with an excellent cast. APV
"Indian Summers" - We can't remember if we saw this on Masterpiece. British colonials in India in the 1930s. APV now
The second half of "Bridgerton" drops Thursday, and a new season of "My Life is Murder is not far behind.
Plus more dragons on HBO starting Sunday. |

Disappointed that "Grantchester" wasted a whole episode saying goodbye to Will. He came in as the cool guy on the motorcycle to replace the maudlin drunk there before, but he left as a worse whining puddle. Hope the new guy is sharper.
Professor T is what it is. I file it away with Sister Boniface and the other comedy mysteries. Very watchable. |

To: Jhana who wrote (51313) | 6/29/2024 10:25:49 AM | From: Jhana | | | The second half of Bridgerton did have a redeeming theme since it really drilled down into what young women could or couldn't do on their own in that era (almost nothing, of course). Seeing someone fight back when exposed for doing a "man's thing" was worth it.
And fun. |

To: Jhana who wrote (51316) | 6/29/2024 12:00:26 PM | From: epicure | | | I enjoyed that an Queen Charlotte- the spin off. It's diverting.
We started Sweet Tooth but it's a little weird for me.
We love Patton Oswalt's game show- the 1%- because the questions are so fun!
And we enjoy The Goat- because we have NEVER watched reality TV and we enjoy watching a reality TV show that mocks reality TV while being reality TV. It's just the right amount of meta for us.
My Life is Murder- which is my daughter's favorite mystery show, is back for a 4th wonderful season. Enjoying that. |

"Grace" also returns this week for a few new episodes. Strong lead in that one.
Do you know "City Homicide" from Australia? It's a decent procedural with a good cast including one from the "Dr. Blake" world. |
