Dear SI admin,
Clicking on this post or the subsequent 2 posts by Q0one breaks SI siliconinvestor.com

The problems seems to be SI's inability to deal with graphics. I have tried switching from Chrome to Firefox to even the old IE, and none work.

Furthermore, per a previous discussion about this, accessing folders, e.g. Keepers or Mail is still excruciatingly slow. As in go get a coffee and come back slow (literally). I was told to get rid of filing posts that have graphs in them.

I don't see why a page with no graphics on it, such as the inbox or the keepers should care that pages that are linked to it actually have charts.

And more importantly, I find it unacceptable that a site that is supposedly dedicated to stocks cannot allow charts to be browsed and discussed properly.

This usability problem has always been around, but now it has progressed to making the site unusable.

kind regards,
ST

PS I think you may be having other system issues today (aside from terrible base code which is the on-going problem).

I had no problem viewing them and other messages. I am leaving for the doctor will be back in a couple hours or so (depending on traffic). If others can reproduce the problem I can forward it to Dmitry.

Ron

Thanks. I did a hard reset of my pc and clear cache and the problem of viewing the posts got resolved.

However the problem with accessing folders remains. That may be possibly b/c I have a lot in my inbox and even though SI displays only a few, in the backend you may be trying to load everything. Regardless, that is a problem.

Speaking of folders, could someone at SI add a feature where you can scroll down in your inbox and keepers and perhaps search them?

thanks,
ST

Hi Sun Tzu,

I'm not having any of the issues you describe with those posts or accessing Keeper, Mail, or any folders, but I'm using Edge on a Mac for nearly everything related to SI.

While there are many longstanding bugs in SI's code (I'm compiling a list), I haven't run into those.

I see you are a lifetime paid subscriber as am I, so unless you have ads turned on (why would you?), it must not be related to the ad networks used here which has been complicit in many past issues. That's at least a start in troubleshooting this.

Have you tried using another device such as a smartphone or another computer to see if the problems are repeatable there, or another network altogether outside of wherever you're posting from?

Didn't see your post before I added mine. Glad you found a fix.

I would love that feature as well since deleting and filing old mail is a real chore simply to be able to reach previous pages in Mail that are inaccessible unless one does this.

Thanks. The problem of accessing folders remains regardless of which device or browser I use. I suspect the issue may be related to my having filed a few hundred items. But that should not be a problem since SI only lets you see the top few.

SI admin told me that it may be because my files have graphics in them. That seems really dysfunctional. In site dedicated to stocks, what else are you going to store but charts?

There was an old bug many years ago where stored graphics you'd added to your own collection here slowed posting way down, but I haven't had an issue since it was fixed. No idea if what you describe is related in some way.

I have about 600 filed messages here, but most don't have any graphics in them. Are the graphics in your filed mail linked to other sites or copied/embedded in your own database here, or some combo of the two?

If they're links and not embedded, perhaps every time folders are accessed it tries to open every link to every graphic contained within.

Purely guessing here but it would explain the behavior.
