Tony certainly played his part of putting SI on the Investment internet web. A focus SI should have kept instead of just chasing indiscriminate “eyeballs”. SI had the head-start in terms of financial forums. Sadly they just gave it away. Now it’s just another noisy forum where finding good financial opinions has become harder and harder.

The number of posts to almost all of SI's boards has fallen precipitously since its heyday. It's difficult to understand why it didn't realize that censoring discussion would lead to discussion going elsewhere.

Any "censoring" that I see is needed because of a problem poster(s), and there aren't very many of those. So I don't see censoring as any kind of issue. I like the size here. There are busier boards like StockTwits, I think that's the name, but they have subscription fees. I'm used to good old Silicon Investor, suits me just fine!!

Do any other forums on the Internet besides SI give thread ban power to the the user who created it? I'm very curious about this since I don't know any that do. I don't use SeekingAlpha, Stocktwits, etc. so I wouldn't know. All the ones I know have many moderators to censor content, but they're at an admin level above the users. Since Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act and its "hands off" approach for holding companies liable for the content their users produce is getting a hard look now by Congress, it may not be long before SI and other places that allow people to abuse each other like they do here won't be allowed at all.

There is no mobile app for SI. Young people do almost everything in their smartphones these days, including read stock forums and trade on them as well. Most of the other sites either have mobile apps now, or they work well with the smartphone's browser. See reason #2. 2. SI's HTML code does not use Responsive web design (Wikipedia), so using a smartphone's web browser to access SI is just using a tiny version of the desktop/laptop version. If you've ever tried posting with it, you know how difficult it is. 3. While the simple text design of SI is great, and I love it myself, I believe it is a turn off to younger users familiar with more modern features. Those are the basics, though many other lesser reasons exist for the stagnant user growth.

I loved DW when I had to use it in the late 90's to work on a website, but Adobe purchasing it was the end of my affair, and all the sadness that it brought. :-)

I like the design. I don't like the small steps to make it more mobile friendly (so for example I use the classic subjectmarks page), but most of those are either minor or avoidable. I guess some people don't see the need for a PC, instead doing everything from a phone, but even if the interface was set up primarily for a phone I don't think it would be as good for a text heavy site as a PC with a larger screen and a real keyboard (yes you can connect a blue tooth keyboard to a phone, but then you lose some of the easy mobility of the phone. I only bring SI up on a phone if I want to show someone else something posted here. Its not just SI, but sites like Reddit, I can't imagine regularly browsing on a phone despite the fact that it has a mobile app. I could see something like Facebook (although I don't go on that on my phone, or at all as much as I used to).

I like the design too and have also turned off the new features that make it more mobile friendly because it's still much easier to use a computer for posting purposes here. A good redesign using responsive web coding could keep both old and new interfaces as the transition is made to the new one. I see it all the time on large sites like eBay and Facebook where they solicit user feedback about the changes when giving an option to go back to the previous design. Yes, but how old are you? I think you're making my #1 point for me here, and I only realized it recently when thinking about the young people I know and how extensively they use their smartphones.
