Hi all, I'm here through reading Michael Burry's profile on Wikipedia. I heard he got his start here so naturally I want to sign up and experience the magic.
I'm a die hard value investor, having learnt from Kenneth Marshall in a short online course through Stanford Continuing Studies.
Truly, I feel it is the most meaningful thing I've ever done. I'm not a CFA-level securities analyst by any means but I have put more than 100 businesses through the framework I learnt from this professor. I love the fact that I only spent one fortieth of the money, on that course, that it cost me to get the masters degree for my profession. Going by the 20+ compounding rate I've achieved since 2019, the returns are also going to be far higher than what I've managed from the salary my profession has given me.
That brings me to the name of my account. I am in the geospatial industry. I can see that my salary has compounded at 1% annually since starting in 2011. This is largely due to moving to a different country that is more competitive compared to where I started. So I am paid less for the same work in the country where I am currently. The monopolist in my industry, privately held Esri, has had a compounding rate of 4.3% on its revenue from 1997 to 2021.
So what I'm here to do is to at least match the income compounding rate of Esri. There is a lot of silicon involved in geospatial products so I think I'm in the right place to learn how to do this.
