As a result on the ongoing droughts and heat wave in BC, exacerbated by dry lightning storms, wildfire numbers are on the increase. BC is now up to 319 fires, the majority classified as out of control, with 14 evacuation orders -- get out now! -- and 17 evacuation alerts -- be ready to leave at any moment -- in force. Although there will be some lessening of the heat this week, this will come with more wind and dry lightning, so it probably won't help much.

And things are even worse in Alberta, with over 7000 people evacuated due to just one of the fires.

And needless to say, with all these fires we are starting to get more and more air quality warnings due to smoke.

We had a few drops of inconsequential rain yesterday. What we really need is a good soaker coming in off the Pacific, but I see nothing indicating this happening any time soon.
